Beatriz Mercado, of Chile responds to questions about supporting harm reduction projects like Pledging Action rather than Abolitionist based Projects.
This was a statement Gregor made regarding the SWOP East meeting with street outreach workers that work with street based sex workers in Santiago Chile.
Gregor states:
“you should clarify if all those mothers like you, believe in *PERPETUATING* PORN AND PROSTITUTION.”
Beatriz responds below in a repost from another thread.

Oh, Gregor, you have time, sitting in your comfortable chair, writing in your wonderful computer, you have time and ease of mind to worry and wonder about this deep questions. Do those mothers in the pictures believe in in perpetuating porn or not? the answer can’t be easier, the answer you’d get is uh? (only in spanish, but you’re not familiar with that, so I won’t use it). Those women don’t even have a place to meet, they had to borrow the room where we took the picture, I’m sure they made a big expense getting some cookies and juice to give us, all their talk was about the outreach work they’re doing and how they try so hard to get help to make street sex workers life a bit more secure and a bit less miserable. They’re not worried about the philosophical frame of their work, they can only worry about how are they going to get the resources to keep their program up. Just alleviate the needs of today, of this winter (I don’t know if you’re aware of it, but here it is winter, being the southern hemisphere). They don’t have a computer like you and I, Gregor, they couldn’t afford it. Thank God we have a lot of public places with internet access here, that’s how they keep up their emails. The ones that know how to.
Typical first world comment, Gregor. Typical comment from the desk, the living room, while watching TV. When basic needs are fully satisfied, you worry about philosophical questions. But your belly is full, Gregor, theirs isn’t. So the only answer you’ll get is uh? and a shrug.
